St. Mullins Adventure 2012
We decided to head for the picturesque village of ST MULLINS which is on the river Barrow. The river Barrow meets the tide in the beautiful valley south of Graiguenamanagh, Co Carlow about 12 miles from the town of New Ross. The Twaite Shad (Alosa fallax), a member of the herring family is anadromous and around May each year they ascend the rivers of southern Ireland where they seek out gravel beds to spawn. On our first visit I spent my time talking to some of the locals where I was given the run down on the best spots and some tips on how to make my Tasmanian devil be more life like to the Shad. I found that the Shad came in shoals and you had short periods of intense activity, followed by lulls. On my second visit just before high water I managed to bag my first Shad

Kevin down from Dublin for a evenings fishing in St Mullins.
