Oisin and Granddad’s Fishing Adventure

Oisin and Granddad’s Fishing Adventure

Oisin (14) and Grandad (mind your own business) arrived at the Three Sisters Marina parking at 0830 for our 0900 rendezvous with Mr Crowe.  A roar from across the road followed by the arrival of the distinctive Orange Range Rover signalled that despite thirty years of trying I had yet to catch John on the hop.

Slipped mooring at 0850 and with Oisin at the helm  cruised at around eight knots between the sometimes whimsically-numbered channel markers.

Opened up after the Mount Elliot swing bridge roared past Cheekpoint at about thirty knots and then on a more SE heading to Ballyhack for coffee – take away to maintain dept on a falling tide.

Location and headings have to be vague from this point due to JC rule of Omerta.

We arrived at our first “up-and-down” fishing spot at around 1100 following some half -hearted and unsuccessful trawling for Bass.  Within minutes Oisin had his first fish of the day and that was the start of an action packed eight hours. We lost count of the numbers of Pollack -small to middling -few mackerel and towards the end (somewhere off Hook Head )  Mr Crowe produced the sole cod with a flourish using his “too-expensive -to-let-the likes-of-us -use-it” rod.

Grandad had his revenge by decorating the reeds and rocks of the estuary with at least four sets of Mr Crowe’s prize lures.

No idea how it happened John and even more perplexed that you and Oisin managed to get through the day without losing a single lure!

Must be an age thing!

Beautiful weather a fast boat, and endless supplies of quality fishing gear (sorry again)  plenty of fish (all released)  Mrs Foley’s sandwiches and an expert good natured skipper add up to one of the great days.

Thank you John!

Oisin and Jack.

THE FACE OF ANOTHER  CONVERTED AVIDANGLER ! Many thanks Jack for your report on a great days  fishing.
